Why We Gather

Black.Indie.Ignite. was created with a simple belief: Black indie filmmakers, immersive creators, and creative technologists deserve spaces where community comes before competition.

We’re intentionally building something different—gatherings where creators can exchange ideas, discover new possibilities, learn from one another, and build relationships that last beyond a single event.

Small by Design

We believe meaningful conversations happen when people have the time and space to connect.

Rather than building the biggest event, we intentionally keep Black.Indie.Ignite. intimate. Smaller gatherings create more opportunities for honest dialogue, thoughtful questions, spontaneous collaboration, and genuine relationships.

Everyone Has a Seat at the Table

Community shouldn’t come with different levels of access.

That’s why there are no VIP tickets, exclusive lounges, or separate experiences. Every attendee shares the same conversations, meals, screenings, and celebrations because we believe community is built when everyone has a seat at the same table.

Built Around Collaboration

Independent storytelling isn’t a competition.

From curated fireside conversations and Ignition Labs to Movies & Mimosas and our closing reception, every experience is designed to encourage creators to share ideas, discover collaborators, and support one another’s work.

Creative Discovery

Storytelling is constantly evolving.

Black.Indie.Ignite. creates space to explore emerging technologies, discover new creative approaches, and learn from fellow storytellers working across film, immersive media, and creative technology.

Shared meals, intentional breaks, and moments for conversation aren’t extras—they’re part of how we build community and care for the people behind the work.

Strong creative communities begin where people live and create.

Black.Indie.Ignite. launched in Los Angeles in 2025 and continues in Brooklyn in 2026. As we grow, our vision is to bring intentional gatherings to more cities, strengthening local creative communities one gathering at a time.
