Black.Indie.Ignite. was created with a simple belief: Black independent storytellers deserve spaces where community comes before competition—and where they can gain practical tools to move their work forward.
We bring together Black indie filmmakers, creators and creative technologists for intentional gatherings built around honest conversation, hands-on learning, creative discovery, collaboration and wellness.
Through intimate fireside conversations, Ignition Labs and opportunities to build alongside one another, creators don’t just hear from people doing the work—they get to ask questions, work through ideas, strengthen projects and make connections that can continue long after the day ends.
Black.Indie.Ignite. is intentionally intimate.
We keep our gatherings small enough for real conversations to happen—where you can ask questions, exchange ideas, meet collaborators and actually get to know the people in the room.
We’re not trying to be the biggest gathering. We want to create one where meaningful connections can happen.
There are no VIP tickets. No exclusive lounges. No separate experiences.
Everyone shares the same conversations, meals and opportunities to connect. Whether you’re an emerging filmmaker or years into your career, you belong in the room.
We don’t want creators spending an entire day simply listening.
Our fireside conversations open up honest discussions about the realities of building an independent creative career. Our Ignition Labs turn those conversations into action, giving creators space to work on their own projects, ideas, strategies and materials with guidance from people who have done the work themselves.
Come ready to participate.
Independent storytelling doesn’t happen alone.
Black.Indie.Ignite. is designed to encourage creators to share knowledge, exchange resources, support one another and discover opportunities to build together.
We believe collaboration over competition makes the entire Black independent creative ecosystem stronger.
Storytelling is constantly evolving, and creators deserve space to explore what’s changing without losing sight of what makes their work their own.
We create room to experiment with new technologies, tools and creative approaches while also asking important questions about authorship, ownership, ethics and cultural protection.
For us, innovation should expand what’s possible for creators—not diminish the voice, perspective or humanity behind the work.
Creative work can be demanding. So can a full day of learning and connecting.
That’s why we intentionally build space into Black.Indie.Ignite. to pause, eat, play, connect, reflect or simply decompress.
Creativity needs room to breathe—and so do creators.
We believe strong creative communities are built where people live and create.
Black.Indie.Ignite. launched in Los Angeles in 2025. In 2026, we’re gathering in Brooklyn.
As we grow, our vision is to bring Black.Indie.Ignite. to more cities while staying true to what makes it special: intimate gatherings, local creative communities and meaningful connections.
Black.Indie.Ignite. is for filmmakers and creators who want to learn, build, connect and move their work forward—without having to navigate the journey alone.
Whether you’re developing your first project, building your audience, looking for funding, exploring new tools or figuring out what comes next in your creative career, there’s a place for you here.
Come ready to learn. Come ready to share. Come ready to build.
An intentional gathering created for Black indie filmmakers, immersive creators and creative technologists.
