About Black.Indie.Ignite.

Why We Gather

Black.Indie.Ignite. was created from a simple belief: Black independent creators deserve spaces where community comes before competition.

We bring filmmakers, storytellers and creators together to have honest conversations, learn from one another, try new things and build relationships that continue after the event ends.

Everyone Has a Seat at the Table

Community shouldn't come with different levels of access. There are no VIP tickets, exclusive lounges or separate experiences at Black.Indie.Ignite. Everyone shares the same conversations, meals and celebrations. Whether you're an established filmmaker or still finding your way into the industry, you're part of the same room.

Small on Purpose

We're not trying to build the biggest creative conference. Black.Indie.Ignite. is limited to 100 attendees so there's actually time to talk, ask questions, participate and get to know the people around you. Our fireside conversations stay conversational. Our labs stay hands-on. And there's room throughout the day to connect without rushing from one session to the next.

More Than Programming

A creative gathering shouldn't leave you exhausted. That's why meals, breaks, wellness and time to simply talk are part of the experience. We want people to leave Black.Indie.Ignite. with new ideas and relationships, but also with space to think about what comes next.

We also don’t want creators spending an entire day simply listening. Our fireside conversations open up honest discussions about the realities of building an independent creative career. Our Ignition Labs turn those conversations into action, giving creators space to work on their own projects, ideas, strategies and materials with guidance from people who have done the work themselves.

Come ready to participate.

A Different City Each Year

Black.Indie.Ignite. launched in Los Angeles in 2025. In 2026, we're bringing the gathering to Brooklyn.

Rather than growing into one massive annual conference, our goal is to bring BII to different cities and create opportunities for local filmmakers and creators to gather, meet one another and build from there.

Wellness Matters

Creative work can be demanding. So can a full day of learning and connecting. That’s why we  build space into Black.Indie.Ignite. to pause, eat, play, connect, reflect or simply decompress.

Who It's For

lack.Indie.Ignite. is for Black filmmakers, storytellers and creators working independently and figuring out what's next.

You might be making your first film or your tenth. You might be exploring new technology, looking for collaborators, trying to fund your next project or simply wanting to be around other people doing this work.

You don't have to have it all figured out. Come ready to participate.
